PROGRAMME
SATURDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 2012
09.30 Registration and coffee

10.00
We will look briefly at the history of integrative psychotherapy as it has evolved over the years and then we will review its current status in the field of psychotherapy. The term 'integrative psychotherapy' has come to mean both the holistic integration of the person and the integration of different theoretical strands from a number of sources into a coherent working model of practice. Together we will address some of the common criticisms and the advantages of an integrative stance.

11.15 Coffee

11.45
Current relational trends in the field of psychotherapy can be seen as a good basis for an integrative relational approach to psychotherapy. We will consider briefly relational themes emerging from child development research, neurobiology, and clinical expertise as a basis for a view of psychotherapy from a co-created, intersubjective, two-person perspective. We will consider the relevance of the concept of the relational unconscious as underlying the co-constructed therapeutic process.

13.00 Lunch

14.00
We will consider integration in practice and reflect on the interface between the explicit, conscious, verbal level of communication and the implicit, non-verbal levels of contact between the therapist and the client. We will look at the moment-by-moment negotiation of the relationship at different levels of experience as a key therapeutic process. A focus on the immediacy of the process in the room as emphasised by current relational authors will form part of this discussion.

Short experiential exercises and group discussion will from a central part of this workshop throughout the day.
